POLICING
Forsythe Consulting, 2006 Survey into Young People's attitudes towards the Police, City of Westminster, 2006.
Forsythe Consulting’s major report on public attitudes to policing and
law enforcement has been delivered to the MPS and Westminster’ Safer
Communities. Young people want police to concentrate on investigating
crime and catching criminals. They also want more attention given
to victims of crime and for senior police managers to become
accountable to the public.
Streetbeatz website commented: In
a survey by Forsythe Consulting, respondents 'approved of youth
programmes for crime prevention as these initiatives are specific and
have a clear purpose. However they have little regard for initiatives
such as 'better community liaison by police' because these are often
vague and fail to address specific concerns. An initiative such as
Streetbeatz - formulated to meet many of the concerns expressed by
young people - has the potential to achieve much more, not least
because it has clear objectives which lend themselves to meaningful
evaluation. http://www.streetbeatz.org/what_people_say.phtml
Neighbourhood Watch also welcomed the report and noted one of the
findings which was that the majority of teenagers in the study group
felt the criminal justice system was inadequate at protecting both
law-abiding citizens and victims of crime.

POLITICAL ENGAGEMENT
Forsythe Consulting have completed research for public sector clients
on why so many people feel disengaged from politics and government. The
research has encountered declining respect, notably amongst young
people for both politicians and the institutions of government. There
is a widespread view that delivery of public services has been damaged
by a risk-averse management culture – a situation that privatisation
has made worse rather than better.
VOLUNTEERING
Forsythe Consulting’s study of volunteering has been completed.
The report was commissioned by Westminster Council’s overview and
scrutiny committee for Children and Young People and it has recommended
an overhaul of how young volunteers are attracted and recruited.
The major recommendation is to develop the role of Westminster
Volunteer Centre in order to make volunteering opportunities more
available and attractive. It is proposed a Youth Development
Manager should be appointed to work with agencies and services to help
create more and varied opportunities, and to support young volunteers.
