Examples of Our Work
Young People’s Attitudes to Policing, Crime and Law Enforcement
This focuses on the views of over 450 teenagers and young people in
London’s City of Westminster including those in Youth Clubs and Young
Offenders. We found strong demand for vigorous and tough police action
on crime and that the majority of young people want police to
investigate crime and catch criminals.
Regional Equality Evaluation
Much
of the work delivering central government policy initiatives is handled
at regional level as well as through local councils. Early
in 2007 Forsythe Consulting commenced work on an evaluation study of
equality work in the East of England. The work is being carried
out for MENTER and will include comparative analysis of work in other
English Regions. We are always interested to receive views on
this or other aspects of equality and inclusion; so please write or
email us and have your say.
Public Consultation and Engagement
Whether
its changes to the Connexions Service or issues about planning, parking
charges, or rubbish collection; the importance of public engagement and
consultation has been recognised by leading local authorities such as
Haringey and Westminster. Forsythe Consulting understand
the key differences between research and consultation and can provide
cost effective and fast turnaround of data collection, analysis and
reporting. We use SNAP and SPSS for our public consultation work
and both Greville Percival ad Virginia Gorna have enhanced CRB
clearance which is essential for work with children and young
people.
Equality Impact Assessment (EQIA)
Equality impact assessments are often seen as a diffusion of management
effort, but should, more positively, be seen as a highly effective aid
to management and organizational efficiency. This is
because effective impact assessment can be a real aid to management and
operational efficiency. The City of Westminster asked us to
impact assess their Local Implementation Plan for transport.
Transport policies cover a wide and varied area ranging from
infrastructure schemes and car parking through to bus routes and
services as well as the availability of walkways and cycle
routes. Forsythe Consulting’s equality impact assessment
for the Local Implementation Plan is available on Westminster City
Council’s website.

A Race Equality Presence in Westminster
A research study to define the scope, nature and structure of race
equality services in Westminster. In addition to conducting a
needs assessment, Forsythe Consulting identified how the proposed
service would meet wider social inclusion aims of partnership working,
user and community involvement, management and governance, and funding.
We developed a management and operational plan for service provision
which is now being put into practice. The report and executive
summary are available on the City Council’s website under Westminster
Partnership for Race Equality:

analyses policy development in this area over the last
decade. The publication includes contributions by other
well-known figures and is due to be published in November by John Wiley
& Sons.
